Carlos Mamani
Carlos is a Cusco local who has guided professionally since 2020 and has led international visitors on the Humantay Lake day trip since 2022, more than 1,000 travellers by his own count. His ground is the practical side of that day: the 3:30 AM pickups, the switchbacks where people burn out in the first twenty minutes, the horses at Soraypampa, and the way the glacier clouds over by late morning. Ask him what makes the day work and the answer is plain. Acclimatize first, start early, walk slowly, and let someone else handle the logistics.
The traveller count is Carlos's own figure. The rating and review count are the operator's current GetYourGuide listing data, not ours.
What Carlos does and does not do here
Plainly: Carlos guides the Humantay Lake excursion, but he does not lead the specific departure this site features. That bookable trip is operated by Inka Altitude, with its own guides and drivers. Carlos's role on this site is research and honest reporting. He knows the trail and the altitude firsthand, in both seasons, so he vets the featured listing the way a working guide would, without pretending to be at the front of its group.
That line matters to us. A guide claiming firsthand experience he does not have is the exact thing we built this site to avoid.
How this site checks its facts
Every figure here traces to a real source. The tour's rating, review count, inclusions, pickup window, meal arrangement and cancellation terms all come from the operator's official GetYourGuide listing, and we re-check them against it rather than letting them drift. Where a value moves, like the price for a given date and currency, we send you to the live listing instead of freezing a number that will go stale.
The altitude, trail and access facts work the same way: the lake's 4,200 m elevation, the roughly 3 km climb from Soraypampa, the community entrance fee at the Mollepata checkpoint, the horse arrangement, and the rule against entering the sacred lake come from published operator, park and municipal sources plus current traveller reports, and we keep the source record on file with the date each fact was last verified. Where we could not verify something, we say so instead of guessing.
